Piper longum (Indian long pepper).  The piperine contained in the fruits is meant to stimulate digestion and the respiratory tract and energizes and cleanses the body.  Ayurveda considers it to be rejuvenating (not scientifically established).

Pippali is used together with black pepper and ginger to make trikatu - the most important digestive stimulant in ayurveda.  It increases agni, burns ama and promotes the digestion of nutrients.
