Description
Pippali
Pippali (long pepper) is used medicinally and as a spice and belongs to the piperaceae family. We use the fruit of this aromatic climbing plant. Its qualities are very like black pepper but it is less heavy for the stomach.
Long pepper mainly has an appetizing effect and strengthens agni.
Pippali has a calming effect on the vata and kapha doshas. Because the digestion produces sweetness from pippali, it only increases pitta very slightly. Pippali can be taken moderately, like ginger, by people who have a dominant pitta dosha.
