People suffering from hypertension should avoid excessive consumption of this product. Liquorice root can contain up to 14% glycyrrhizin. According to EU recommendations the daily dose of glycyrrhizin should not exeed 100 mg. This equates to a weight of 700 mg of liquorice root (approx. a level teaspoon of liquorice root powder).
