Amalaki (Amla)
Amla is considered the most important rasayana in Ayurveda. It is also known as the ‘Indian gooseberry’ in English, as it bears a resemblance to the gooseberry found here. The fresh fruit tastes very sour and contains very high amounts of vitamin C. It includes 5 of the 6 tastes; salty is the only one missing. It calms all three doshas, mainly the pitta dosha.
